This article helps you to view the default notepad font, and change the default font or restore to the default notepad font on different versions of Windows.
The default notepad font is Consolas, Regular, 10 on Windows 8, Windows 10, and Windows 11. The default notepad script type is Western.
On Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 the default notepad font was Lucida Console, Regular, 10.
Change Notepad Font on Windows
To change the notepad font click Format. Select Font. A Font dialog will open. In Font type change it to another font say Arial. In Font Style, there are four types of font styles available Regular, Italic, Bold and Bold Italic. Select the correct font style. In Font size select smaller or bigger font size as per your need. You can also manually edit the font size.
Finally, click OK to save your changes.
When you open the notepad next time, you will see the updated font changes. If the change was temporary and later you need to restore the default font follow the below step.
Restore Notepad Font to Default on Windows
To restore the notepad font to default settings, in the notepad menu select Format Menu and then select Font... Menu item and restore the font type to Consolas or Lucida Console depending upon the windows version as mentioned at the beginning of this post.
When you changed the font type in the font popup, click OK to restore or click Cancel to continue with your existing font settings.
